About us

The Tap was our first pub so it will always be a bit special to us. After being shut for 2 years we managed to save it from the clutches of the bulldozers back in June 2008, when it re-opened as The Brewery Tap, after previously being known as The Royal Standard. It then went on the win Derby Camra Pub of The Year.

It is a unique Victorian curved building dating back to 1862 and sits on the banks of the river Derwent.

The pub has a rich past, Queen Victoria is said to have enjoyed a drink in the lounge bar (which is now the curved side of the building to the right as you enter). And three generations of the Parnell family have been landlords, including the famous formula one racing driver from the 50’s Reg Parnell . The Brewery Tap now holds a Historical Blue Plaque due to the connection with Reg Parenell.

The Tap combines high Victorian ceilings and imposing windows with exposed brickwork and original wooden floors to create a great pub. There is also a purpose build smoking barn, courtyard and roof terrace overlooking the river, perfect for those fleeting summer months.
